What is "Focus on Flagler Youth"?
Focus on Flagler Youth is a coalition of non-profit and governmental
agencies, youth, and community members working collectively
to develop and implement a data-driven, outcomefocused community
plan to enhance the lives of the youth in Flagler County.
Established
in January 2003, the Focus on Flagler Youth Coalition’s
mission is to support, create and make possible programs that
enable Flagler youth to achieve healthy growth and fulfillment.

coalition meets regularly to share information and recognize
strengths and assets that can be joined together to help the
needs of each organization. The coalition works toward overcoming
barriers that will have long-standing impacts on the youth
of Flagler.

Coalition’s
Priority Risk Factors for Flagler
The coalition collected and analyzed data indicators that impact
children and families. As a result of the review process, the
coalition identified these critical issues facing Flagler Youth:

Low neighborhood attachment and disorganization.

Personal
transitions and mobility.

Community
norms favorable to drug use and crime.

Lack
of commitment to school.
-
Poor
family supervision and parental attitudes that are favorable
to problem behavior

Lower
level of participation in church and religious life than
the average student living in the state.

Coalition
Objectives
1.
To build capacity to identify, receive, prioritize and monitor
competitive funding grant applications and project activities.
2. To support existing drug-free and delinquency programs.
3. To compile various needs assessments, collect data, and
prioritize risk indicators and protective factors.
4. To develop a three year drug prevention and delinquency
plan.
5. To promote education and training in the community.
6. To monitor and over see programs required to have a community
oversight function.
